Change The Time in Windows Vista

If your computer clock is wrong, learn how to change the time and date on your computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer running Windows Vista
  1. Step 1

Move the mouse to the bottom-right corner of the screen. It should be on top of the current time.

  2. Step 2

Right-click on the time. Near the top of the menu that pops up, you'll find "Adjust Date/Time." Left-click on it to select it.

  3. Step 3

In the new window that pops up, to the right of the clock, click on the button that says "Change date and time..."

  4. Step 4

Look at text box under the clock. To the left is the hour section, followed by a colon, the minute section, another colon, the second section, and the AM/PM section. Click in the hour section. Click the up and down arrows to the right of the textbox to change the hour. You'll notice the hour turns blue to indicate you can now change it by using the arrows.

  5. Step 5

When the hour is correct, click in the minute section, and click the up and down arrows to adjust to the correct minute. When the minute is correct, click in the second section, and click the up and down arrows to adjust to the correct second. When the second is correct, click in the AM/PM section, and click the up and down arrows to change from AM to PM or from PM to AM. Click "OK" to lock in the time.

  6. Step 6

To change the month and year, click on the "Change date and time..." button to the right of the clock. When the new window pops up, to the left of the clock is the calender. At the top-left corner of the calender, there's a left arrow, and at the top-right corner of the calender, there's a right arrow. The month and year are listed in the middle. Click on the left arrow to move a month backward in time, and click on the right arrow to move a month forward in time. Notice the month and year in the middle are updated accordingly.

  7. Step 7

Choose the correct day by clicking on the day of the month displayed on the calender. Once the day is clicked, a transparent blue square will appear over the day. The blue square should remain even after you move the mouse away. If it doesn't, click the day again. Click "OK" to confirm the date.

  8. Step 8

To the right of the clock, both the date and time are listed. Check to make sure they're correct.

Tips & Warnings
  • Because the time isn't locked in until you click "OK," set the clock a few seconds ahead of the actual time. This accounts for the time it takes to double-check the time you entered was right, and to click "OK."
