Get Free Gift Cards Without Doing Surveys

Gift cards are great – you can keep them and use them, give them as gifts, or use them as a prize in a giveaway or contest. There are many creative ways to get free gift cards without having to fill out long online surveys. Learn how to legitimately get free gift cards using other resources.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Transfer a prescription. Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Target, Kroger, and other stores often run promotions for a free gift card when you transfer a prescription. You can transfer your prescription every few months and rack up several cards in a year.

  2. Step 2

Attend trade shows and expos. You may already be attending trade shows in your line of work. Watch for trade shows and expos to come to your town. Sometimes the public is allowed to attend, other times the show is by invitation only. Once inside the trade show, look for opportunities to get free gift cards –answer questionnaires, sign up for a free trial, etc. I scored several gift cards at eBay Live just by stopping by a few booths and answering some questions.

  3. Step 3

Give blood. Sometimes the Red Cross will run a promotion for a free gift card when you donate a pint of blood. You will be doing a huge humanitarian service and getting a freebie in return. I’ve received free movie and food gift cards this way.

  4. Step 4

Redeem credit card points. American Express, Discover, and other credit card companies offer points that can be redeemed for gift cards at the end of the year. Check your credit cards and find out if any offer this perk.

  5. Step 5

Enter contests on blogs. Visit Money Saving Mom and Sisterly Savings for a huge list of giveaways each week. You can win all kinds of items including gift cards. Usually, all that is required is that you leave a comment. There is no cost to enter these types of giveaways.

  6. Step 6

Pay attention to local bank offers. Banks always need new customers and will sometimes offer a free gift card when you open a new account. You don’t have to close your existing account – just meet the requirements at the advertising bank to get the gift card.

  7. Step 7

Test drive a car. Sometimes, car dealerships will offer a free gift card if you test drive a car. Just don’t get sucked into buying the car.

  8. Step 8

Watch for ads on the internet. You may find free gift card offers on sites like Facebook and MySpace. Facebook recently offered a $5 Sears gift card to anyone with a Facebook account.

  9. Step 9

Join groups such as Slick Deals and The Grocery Game. These sites have message boards where members regularly post freebie deals. Check the boards often for new posts.

  10. Step 10

Ask for them. If you are ever asked what you want for your birthday or Christmas, answer, “Gift cards are great!”

  11. Step 11

See the resources section below for links to sites for free coupons and free samples.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be cautious of scams on the internet requiring you to fill out long forms and provide personal information. There are safer ways to get free gift cards and you don't have to give out all your personal information.
  • Ask if there is a "catch." Sometimes free isn't really free. Make sure you know the rules before agreeing to anything.
