Save Money on Your Grocery Bill
Save Money on Your Grocery Bill

This may seem simple, but if you don't already do this, you'll be amazed at how much money you save while shopping for groceries!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grocery store
  • a little planning
  1. Step 1

Make a decision to do your grocery shopping at a certain time each week. Roughly decide what groceries you will be using for the week! This is the secret...shop for the week, no longer. You may want to keep a list posted on the fridge etc. where you can add items that you'll need to buy during your next shopping trip.

  2. Step 2

When you go to the grocery store, only buy those items that you plan on using during that week. This way you will have no problems skipping over items that you know can wait for another trip. This also makes going to the grocery store a little less intimidating as it doesn't take as long and you're options are narrowed down.

  3. Step 3

Use your items during the week and do whatever it takes to stretch what you have until the week is up. You'll get better at it the more you do it. We find ourselves throwing out virtually no food since we started doing this. We also have found it staggering how much money we can save each month by shopping on a week to week basis.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan your meals as much as possible.
  • Pick up the basics and pick up just enough to last the week.
  • You may receive a bit of a shock at the amount of savings if you've been shopping for the month!

on 3/5/2009 My husband always follows rule #2, whereas I always want to "stock up" - like buy 10 cans of soup if they are on sale and I have coupons for them, even though I have 20 cans of soup at home. Great tips!! 5*
