How to Properly Steep Tea
A cup of tea is a great way to relax or to start your day; however, a proper cup of tea is more than a tea bag and some hot water. To properly steep tea for maximum flavor, different preparations are required for different types of tea. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Filtered or spring water
- Tea kettle
- 6 oz. tea cups
- Teabag or 1 tsp. of loose tea leaves

Start with fresh water. Cold spring water or filtered water works best for optimal taste.

Fill tea kettle with your water and heat to a rolling boil. If you are preparing green tea, stop just short of a boil to avoid cooking the tea leaves.

Use 1 teabag per 6 oz. of water. If using loose tea, 1 tsp. of tea is the equivalent of a teabag.

Pour the water over the tea and steep to taste. Depending on the type of tea being prepared, the infusing time will vary, usually three to five minutes.

Remove the teabags and pour the tea into the tea cups. If using loose tea, use a strainer when pouring the tea to.

Let tea cool for 30 seconds to a minute before drinking.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with steeping times to to find your ideal taste, but if you steep the tea too, long your tea will become bitter.
