Finding cheap car insurance is not always easy but it can be done. Especially if you look online and take a few minutes to not only compare rates but adjust your car insurance coverage options. You will find you do not need to give up good car insurance coverage just to get a cheap rate.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Phone
  • Car insurance knowledge
  1. Step 1

Log on to a car insurance website, it doesn't matter which one, just make sure they can give you a car insurance rate quote online to begin to find a cheap one.

  2. Step 2

Fill out the short application by giving your name, address and car make and model to apply for the car insurance. Make sure you submit all the proper information including the mileage on the car, if they request it. Also be up front about your driving record. Your cheap car insurance quote could change if you do not tell them everything and they find out later.

  3. Step 3

View the cheap car insurance rate they give you. It will probably come in two forms: monthly and yearly (or bi-yearly payments). Compare these rates because the bi-yearly payment will be cheaper. That's an easy way to get a cheaper car insurance rate without any hassle.

  4. Step 4

Compare the cost savings for the cheaper car insurance rate quote of you paid for a year up front, or monthly. See if there is significant savings here. If not, go to step 5.

  5. Step 5

Apply for another cheap car insurance rate quote, this time adjust your coverage options. Lower the medical payments to $10,000/$20,000 and take off towing and car rental coverage. Rely on AAA to help you here (it's cheaper).

  6. Step 6

Raise your deductible to $1000 on comprehensive claims and repairs. This will drop your car insurance rate substantially. Remove glass coverage and extra options for even more savings on car insurance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Removing coverage from your car insurance policy is a better way to find cheap car insurance rates. For the most part, you will not suffer, because these extra options only help if you get in an accident. Odds are, the money you spend on them over the course of your lifetime will more than cover the actual money you ever receive from them. These car insurance companies count on that fact to stay in business!
  • Lower coverage exposes you to potential problems down the road. With less coverage you are stuck paying a higher deductible in case of an accident, and it could lead to problems if you injury someone in an accident. Cheap car insurance is good if you are a safe driver, however!
