Step 1
FIRST! Check on the marriage license requirements in the county you plan to marry. Some counties have a waiting period before you can actually use the license. In some counties both parties need to apply in person at the clerks office, other counties you can even apply online. License fees also vary from place to place.

Step 2
FIRST WEEK: Decide what's most important to you. What are your "Must Haves"? Food? DJ? Pictures? Location? Flowers? You want to decide on your budget in the first 2-3 days of the first week, allotting money according to what is most important to you. By the end of the first week, decide and book your location, date and time. Hire an officiant. Talk to those you want participating in your wedding. Send out invitations immediately. Call, or have a parent call, special guests like Grandparents. Book a photographer, they often fill up their schedule early.
-
Step 3
SECOND AND THIRD WEEK: Now the real work begins. Remember the list of priorities you made in the beginning? Start lining it all up. Book your honeymoon. Decide what everyone will wear. Hire a caterer or make a plan for any refreshments. Call a musician, DJ or make other plans for music and microphone. Decide what kind of flowers you want, and where you will get them. Who do you want making your wedding cake? Do you want a videographer? Rent the limousine, and decide on wedding favors. Decide who will be doing the rehearsal dinner, when, where and who will be invited. Decide how the bride will do her hair.
-
Step 4
FOURTH WEEK: Put the wedding program together. Put wedding favors together and any decoration that can be done ahead of time. Call and confirm all vendors and decide on their arrival time. (flowers, caterer, DJ...) Get all legal information together, Drivers License, Social Security Card, Vehicle Documents, Credit Cards, Bank Accounts, etc... Decide on a seating plan.
-
Step 5
LAST FEW DAYS: Confirm honeymoon reservations and pack. Put all wedding day attire together. Confirm reservations for out of town guests. Confirm rehearsal plans with all involved. Pick up all formal wear. Put together a bridal emergency kit. Get manicure and pedicure. Keep your notes with you to refer to for last minute needs.
-
Step 6
WEDDING DAY! Eat first thing, you'll forget later. Give your notes to a trusted friend who can follow up on details and make sure everything is falling into place. Relax, and enjoy your guests!

on 8/24/2009 If you are performing a wedding at the last minute and can't afford a minister or would better have your money served elsewhere, ask a friend to officiate for you. The Universal Life Church Monastery offers wedding officiant papers for free. Visit www.themonastery.org
