A real estate agent is a licensed individual capable of overseeing sales on real estate. In the state of Texas, real estate agents must complete 210 hours of classroom instruction so that they can effectively answer questions and be of assistance to those looking to purchase real estate. Other duties performed by real estate agents include listing and showing properties, listing agreements and filling out paperwork for contracts. With the right education and commitment, you can become a real estate agent in Texas.

  1. Step 1

    Meet all the requirements. In the state of Texas, one must be a U.S. citizen who resides in Texas and is at least 18 years of age.

  2. Step 2

    Complete the necessary education. Texas law requires 210 hours of coursework to be completed. The Real Estate Express website offers a breakdown of the different courses and the hours required for each of them.

  3. Step 3

    Obtain a certificate of proof. Before applying for the state exam, proof of successful course completion must be shown. A Request for Evaluation of Education Documents needs to be submitted. This document can be found on the Texas Real Estate Commission website.

    Apply for the state examination. This can be done online at the Texas Real Estate Commission website. If desired, a paper application can also be submitted.

    Pass the state examination. This is all that needs to be done to become a real estate agent in Texas.
