Improving posture with a kneeling chair is both easy and fun. If you sit for long periods of time at a computer or for work, then you may want to think about a more ergonomic way to sit. Long hours hunched over in traditional chairs cause back pain and some muscle atrophy. Learn how to strengthen your back and have good posture with a kneeling chair.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • kneeling chair
  1. Step 1

Sit in your kneeling chair to produce a natural upright posture when you sit for long periods. Do this by straddling over the seat. Make your body tall; the movement of your body will make the chair rock slightly forward. The curved runners allow you to adjust your sitting angle to your comfort. The design makes balancing your back over your pelvis easy and comfortable.

  2. Step 2

If you need to lean forward to write something, or get a file from a low drawer, the kneeling chair will keep your posture by moving with you. The curved runners make the chair rock forward to the exact angle you need to keep your back straight. Traditional desk chairs cause you to have to bend over at an awkward angle and then sit back up. This may cause back strain and aggravate back issues such as sciatica.

  3. Step 3

After you have used your kneeling chair for posture for a few months, you can expect to become more comfortable in it. This is because using a kneeling chair strengthens the muscles in your back because it allows for natural movement while you work. The process is similar to using a stability ball to exercise on. Not only will you be more comfortable in your kneeling chair, but you will notice improved posture when you walk as well because your back muscles and skeletal structure have been trained to be comfortable in a proper posture position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test your kneeling chair before purchasing, making sure it will fit your body frame.
  • Some kneeling chairs work on wheels instead of runners. These are best for those that work in a larger area and need to move around in their chair.

on 11/24/2008 I've never even heard of a kneeling chair, but the way I'm spending time on this site, I probably should invest in one! Thanks for the suggestion.
