Things You'll Need:
- Tie-down straps Measuring Tape Towing Vehicle
-
Step 1
Determine how many ATVs you will be hauling on your trailer. Although some haulers are designed to haul a single machine, many are made to haul multiples. Think ahead when purchasing your hauler, as you will most likely use it for many years.
-
Step 2
Examine your towing vehicle. ATVs can weigh upwards of 800 pounds each, and you need a vehicle large enough to tow the combined weight of your hauler and ATVs.
-
Step 3
Measure each of your ATVs. Do not guess when it comes to purchasing an ATV hauler. Write down the length and width of your vehicles and purchase a hauler that will accommodate them.
-
Step 4
Hook your hauler up to your tow vehicle. Secure the hitch to the ball on your truck and fasten the locking pin to keep the trailer from coming loose while you're driving down the road.
-
Step 5
Load each ATV onto the trailer individually. Push it up to the front of your hauler and secure it with tie-down straps. Attach one strap to the front of the vehicle and another to the back to keep the ATV from shifting in transit.
-
Step 6
Drive carefully when pulling your hauler. Towing a vehicle is much different than driving your vehicle alone, so adjust your driving habits accordingly. If you are hauling long distances, stop to check your straps every 200 miles.
-
Step 7
Unload your ATVs upon arrival. Park on a flat surface and apply the parking brake in your vehicle to keep it from rolling as the weight shifts when you unload. Open the tailgate of your trailer, or place ramps firmly on the edge of your trailer to help you unload. Carefully back your ATV off the hauler.
