Things You'll Need:
- a record player

Step 1
Decide what type of vinyl collector you want to be. It'll probably determine how much money you'll have to spend as well. Do you want to collect them for the sake of having a collection? Do you plan to listen to your favorite music until the records wear out? Do you plan to collect the most rare? Will you listen to records exclusively?

Step 2
If you listen to music on several formats (vinyl, CD, MP3), decide what you want on vinyl, what you want on CD and what you want on MP3. If you want a specific album on all formats that's your discretion. It just may save you money to prioritize. It all goes back to what your collecting vinyl for.

Step 3
Find a good store that sells vinyl. Music stores aren't the only places that sell it either. Often books stores and vintage shops will. Check online to see if your city has any independent or used merchandise businesses. These places will be your best bet. Perusing garage sales may also yield results. You could also try websites like eBay. The only problem with that is you can't check the record for scratches.

Step 4
Storage is important. Make sure you store your records in a clean, dry area, room temperature area away from direct sunlight. A durable plastic or metal box is the best storage receptacle. While it's not mandatory, it may help to buy plastic sleeves. They'll protect the cardboard covers from wear.
