Things You'll Need:
- Mobile, High Speed Internet Service
- Self Discipline
-
Step 1
Research the job market for legitimate opportunities to be your own boss. More and more companies are hiring Independent Contractors in order to cut cost. Fortune 5000 companies are laying off thousands of employees and within a couple of months they hire Independent Contractors to fill the roles of the laid-off employees. Having worked in Corporate America for 20 plus years I saw lots of people who accepted severance packages to leave the company and within two years or less they returned as an Independent Contractor. When I left Corporate America three years ago, I made a promise to myself that I would never return. It took me awhile, but once I tasted the freedom that goes along with being your own boss, I wanted no parts of Corporate USA.

Step 2
In your first couple of years of working for yourself, you are going to work harder than you ever worked in your life. Stick to it, and it will be well worth the effort. The beauty of finding your niche as an Independent Contractor, once you do, you can never be fired. Especially in todays' IT market.
-
Step 3
Hone your skills in the Information Technology arena by singing up for free webinars (online seminars) and stay abreast of the new technology that emerges daily. More and more companies, especially those that are born online, are looking for telecommuters because the vurtual office employee is less overhead. Generally, companies that contract their work out don't have to worry about Medical Insurance for employees. If there is one downside to being an Independent Contractor, it's the fact that you are responsible for your own Medical Coverage. However, if you have 3-4 jobs at home, and a couple of those jobs provide residual income, insurance would be the least of your worries.
