Things You'll Need:
- putty knife, chicken wire, possible drywall scraps (if you have any), jar of spakle, paint
-
Step 1
First step, attempt to make hold as square as possible. May require using small hand saw or box cutter (not reccomended) to cut hole bigger. The goal of this step is to make the hole as square as possible.
-
Step 2
Second step, measure the size of the hole that you finished cutting. Need heigth and length.
-
Step 3
Third step, cut the chicken wire according to the dimensions above but be sure to add an inch to both the heigth and length.
-
Step 4
Fourth step, if hole in wall can be accessed from other side (i.e. stairway, closet or hallway wall) then have someone hold the recently cut chicken wire up to hole from reverse side.
-
Step 5
Fifth step, from front side of wall where hole is to be fixed, use the putty knife to apply generous amounts spackle. Use enough to cover entire hole. Should also cover over to existing drywall and be "raised up." You will sand this down later. Allow enough time for spackle to dry.
-
Step 6
Sixth step, need medium sand paper. Sand down recently applied spackle. May need to switch from coarse to medium to fine as you reduce the spackle down to a fine surface that matches the existing drywall.
-
Step 7
Seventh step, apply primer paint to freshly sanded spackle. Apply paint that matches rest of wall when primer is dry. This step may depend on shade of existing paint. If it's very dark then you will probably want to use primer. If the tone is light then you may not want to use primer.
