Store-bought greeting cards can be expensive and often aren’t as personal as we might like. It’s actually not that difficult to make your own greeting cards and the creative process can be a lot of fun and rewarding! To make an easy greeting card, all you need is card stock, a photo, and an envelope. A convenient greeting card size to use is the ‘note card’ or ‘invitation’ size, measuring about 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 inches (categorized A2 by the industry).

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8.5 X 11 inch card stock paper
  • A2 (4 3/8 x 5 3/4 inch) envelopes
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • 4 X 5.3 inch photos
  • Double-sided tape
  • Pen
  1. Step 1

    Purchase a pack of 8.5 X 11 inch card stock and 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 inch (A2) envelopes.

  2. Step 2

Cut each 8.5 X 11 inch card stock sheet in half (the short way) and then fold each sheet further in half to make two equal-sized cards.

  3. Step 3

Choose and order 4 X 5.3 inch photo prints (or print them at home using a photo printer). Nature photos are good choices, but you may also consider using family photos depending on the card recipient.

  4. Step 4

Place 4 small pieces of double-sided tape on the 4 corners of one of your prints.

  5. Step 5

Place the taped print onto the cover of one of your folded cards.

  6. Step 6

You may choose to write a title under the photo or sign your name under the photo if you took the picture. You can also now write your personal message on the inside.

  7. Step 7

Place your completed greeting card into an envelope. You are now ready to send the card.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider buying card stock and envelopes in bulk because it will save you money in the end.
  • Try different color or textured papers for more style in your design.
  • Use a paper cutter instead of a scissors to achieve straighter and more even cuts. This also takes less time.
  • Only a few online photo services print photos at the 4 X 5.3 inch size. Winkflash is one of them.
  • If people enjoy your greeting card creations, then you might want to consider selling them!
  • Be careful when using the scissors or paper cutter to cut the card stock.
