Decorate Your Home Using Color

Do you love your home, but feel that there is something missing? Does it not have the design magazine flair that you desire? This article will teach you how to create a cohesively decorated home using color.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start in one room in your home. The largest room is best - perhaps your living room. Whatever colors you select for this room should compliment the colors of all adjacent rooms that are not separated by a door. Look around that room for a large item with at least 3 colors. That item could be a large rug, sofa, draperies, or large piece of art. If you do not have one, you will need to get one.

  2. Step 2

Select 3 colors in your large item that will be incorporated into your room. For example, it could be green, red, and blue. Neutral colors such as beige, white, or black do not work as well. Decorate with the colors that appeal to you most.

  3. Step 3

Each of your 3 colors should be in at least 3 places spread evenly around your room. You could have decorative blue pillows, a blue candlestick, and blue walls with red and green books, red drapes, and red fruit with a green plant and a green platter. Decorate with whatever accessories you find appealing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your colors are spread evenly throughout the room.
  • Some items can contain multiple colors.
  • Consider having your children paint an art canvas each using at least 3 colors of your choice.

on 3/26/2009 I love decorating my home with color. I like neutrals with a splash of bold color for furnishings. On my walls I like color, can't stand white walls!Great article.
