Legwarmers for babies and toddlers can help keep your little one warm, while reducing the amount of layers needed to remove to change diapers. They can be worn alone with a onesie around the house, or under a dress. You can spend a bundle on baby and toddler legwarmers, or you can use this simple guide to make them yourself for a fraction of the price. These are adorable, and can be used on both girls and boys.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knee high socks
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Pick up a cheapie pair of women's knee high socks for your baby or toddler legwarmers. You can often find them in the women's department at Walmart for around a buck. Pick a brightly colored pattern, or stick with a basic color, the choice is yours. Look for fabric that is lightweight and won't unravel easily. Old knee high and toe socks you no longer want, or that have a hole in the toe would be perfect for baby legwarmers.

  2. Step 2

Hold the top edge of your knee high sock to the top of your baby or toddler's thigh. Make note of where the sock meets your baby's ankle. Cut straight across the sock, making sure you are above the heel of the sock. It is okay to leave it a little long and either roll up the legwarmer, or fold it.

  3. Step 3

If you think the material will ravel, fold cut edge under about a half inch and loosely stitch a hem. Most material in knee high socks will not ravel, and it is still perfectly fine to leave the bottom edge unhemmed. Launder your baby or toddler legwarmers as you would regular socks. These are so cheap, it's easy to have baby legwarmers for every day of the week!

Tips & Warnings
  • If making for a gift, just cut above the heel of the sock. The gift recipient can either trim, or cuff the legwarmer.
  • To wear, pull top side of legwarmer up to top of baby's thigh.
