Step 1
Determine if you already have an OpenID. If you use sites such as such as WordPress.com, blogger, live Journal and more you may already have an OpenID. If not, continue on to the next step.
-
Step 2
Choose a provider. Visit wiki.opened.net for an extensive list of providers. Spend a little time clicking on the links, visiting the websites and finding out the requirements to help you decide which provider to choose.
-
Step 3
Follow the application instructions once you’ve selected an OpenID provider of your liking. Some providers require you to select a password while other websites used a different type of authentication that involves selecting items that only you, as the applicant, will know. Whichever provider you choose, make sure that you don’t lose your OpenID username or authentication information.
-
Step 4
Use a valid email address. The provider will send a confirmation email. You want to make sure you receive it to confirm the information you gave them.
-
Step 5
Keep your information in a safe place. Your OpenID is your digital key to enter various websites. Make sure you know where your keys are.

on 2/1/2009 This is a really helpful article, I've been planning on setting up a master password for my computer for a while now, and OpenID might be what I was looking for. At least until I get one of those new laptops with those handy fingerprint scanners.. Thanks. 5*
