This is the best apple pie recipe I've ever tried. It works best with home made crust but is also delicious with store bought crust.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 Granny Smith apples
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbs butter or margarine
  • pie pastry (2 crust)
  1. Step 1

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Peel and slice the apples. Line a 9" pie dish with first pie crust.

  2. Step 2

In large bowl, place apples and sugars and orange juice and stir. Add nutmeg and cinnamon. Pour the mixture into the pie dish and then cut the margarine or butter into small pieces and place on top of mixture. Carefully cover the pie with the second pie crust. With a fork, gently tamp the top crust edge to the bottom crust edge. Sprinkle a pinch of sugar and cinnamon on top. Make at least four 1/2" slices in top of pastry to let steam escape during cooking.

  3. Step 3

Place the pie in the heated oven and cook for 10 minutes. Turn the heat down to 350 degrees and continue cooking for 40-50 minutes (when pie crust turns golden). Let pie cool for 40 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • This pie is best served warm and you can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to each serving.
