Step 1
Get Yoga DVD's/videos. There are many Yoga DVD's for beginners to try. Body Wisdom Media has some good choices. You can buy these at the store or online. If you do not want to commit, check out your local library.
The video should have good camera angles to learn the poses and offer modifications on each move to allow for flexibility. -
Step 2
Buy a Yoga mat. Even if you have carpet, a mat allows for more comfort.

Dress comfortable. Put on some comfortable clothes because you will be moving in different positions and you have to be able to move around comfortably. Freedom of movement is important to allow you to focus on the postures and yoga positions.

Choose Yoga type. There are many types of Yoga and look for this when choosing your type of DVD or video. The Vinyasa Yoga method is common for at home Yoga. Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement" and it includes a wide variety of movements that typically require you to change positions based on your inhale or exhale.

Add variety. Power Yoga is also a Vinyasa type and gets your heart rate up to add cardio to your routine.

If you are new to Yoga, it is important to learn the basics first. Learn how to breathe, relax, and stretch. All of these have to be done properly before you can do Yoga effectively.

Change routines. Many videos offer a few short routines that you can mix and match. Some routines are designed for morning o wake you up and some for evening to help you be calm and relaxed. Mix and match your routines.
