Things You'll Need:
- computer
- internet connection
- Ebay account
- spare time
-
Step 1
When searching on a search engine such as Google, it's all about keywords. The keyword "wholesale" is overused, most of the companies that pop up under "wholesale merchandise" or "wholesale items" are not true wholesale companies. So never use the word "wholesale" in your keywords that you type into a search.
-
Step 2
Be more specific when using keywords. Example, if you're looking for watches then type in something like "Casio watch distributors". Or if you're looking for knives, type in "Case knife distributors". In some case you can use the word "wholesale" as long as you use "distributor" with it and it's specific enough. Example, "Rayban sunglasses wholesale distributor".
-
Step 3
Always ignore the sponsored ads on the right of the search results. You'll hardly ever find a true wholesale company advertising through sponsored ads. Those are usually companies trying to sell you a membership to their wholesale supply list.
-
Step 4
If you find a company that tries to charge you any money to purchase from them, move on. Some will try to sell you a membership in order to purchase at wholesale prices, don't bother, those aren't true wholesale companies. True wholesalers will never charge you any type of membership fees.
-
Step 5
Always check to see if the wholesalers will give a discount for purchasing multiple items, as in case lots of a particular product. Most all wholesalers will gladly give you a bulk discount.
-
Step 6
Another great tip, other than the search engines, is to go to a Popular Brands website, as in "Boker Knives.com" or "Costa Del Mar Sunglasses.com" , and sometimes these factory websites will have links to the companies that are retailers and wholesalers of their products. These companies are just examples. This has been a great resource for me to find wholesalers.
-
Step 7
Always check the company to see if they already sell their products on Ebay. If they're selling on Ebay, don't bother because you won't get the items at a good enough price to make any money. You have to remember that Ebay takes almost 15% of your sale, between them a Paypal.
-
Step 8
Remember that true wholesale prices are about half of the MSRP price. So always check to see what the MSRP is on that products website, don't trust the wholesale companies idea of an MSRP. Example, if you see a Sony digital camera you're interested in, then go to Sony's website and check the MSRP.
-
Step 9
Always, and I mean Always, check to see what a particular item is selling for on Ebay before buying it, or you may end up losing money because you paid too much. That's the best way to see if a wholesale company is giving you a good price or not. If you check 3 or 4 items and realize that you can buy it cheaper on Ebay then move on to the next company.
-
Step 10
If you really plan to make good money on Ebay, you need to get a business license and tax number. It's not difficult and it doesn't cost much at all. You don't have to worry about taxes unless you happen to sell an item in your own state. This is the only way to get really good wholesale prices because the true big wholesale companies will only sell to you if you have a business license. They are not open to the public. Even if you plan to just do this part time, it is well worth it.

on 1/3/2009 A great resource we found was RETAILERSFORUM.COM which is a free on line monthly magazine that shows wholesalers and merchandise distributors. There are also articles on operating your merchandise business.
