In today's times, not many people, let alone children take the time out to write a handwritten thank you note. Thank you notes should always be sent whenever a child receives any sort of gift from anybody. Once a child knows how to write, they should be the one writing the thank you cards and not the parents. It is a parent's responsibility to make sure that their child writes out and sends thank you notes to people. Here is how you can help your child write thank you notes

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stationary or thank you note cards with envelopes
  • Pen
  • Stamp
  1. Step 1

Go to the store and let your child pick out some stationary or thank you cards to write on. Allowing your child to pick out the thank you card paper (within reason) will help them to get more excited about writing the thank you cards and to have a say in them. Just make sure that the stationary or thank you cards are appropriate for the situation.

  2. Step 2

Have your child sit down at a desk or at the table kitchen, free of distractions. This means don't pick a time that the other kids are playing or a time when your child is tired or cranky to write out thank you cards.

  3. Step 3

Have a list ready for your child of who he is writing a thank you card to and exactly what gift was given to them.

  4. Step 4

Give your child one thank you card at a time, so he can concentrate on thing at a time. Always have him write the name of the person or people to who the thank you card is being addressed in the thank you card. This way, you can write out the envelope for him if your child is younger.

  5. Step 5

Have your child start out the thank you card with saying thank you for the gift. Then make sure to tell him to write how he uses the gift and how he appreciates the gift.

  6. Step 6

Have your child sign his name to the thank you card. If your child is younger then you can fill out the envelope for him. If your child wishes, he can add a sticker or a small drawing on the back of the thank you card envelope to personalize the thank you card.

  7. Step 7

Place a stamp on the envelope and make sure to mail out the thank you cards within 2 weeks of your child receiving the gift.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use emails to have your child say thank you. It's so much more personal to receive a handwritten note from a child in the mail saying thank you.
