How to Make a Carrier for Your Child's' EpiPen

How to Make a Carrier for Your Child's' EpiPenthumbnail
Peanuts are a common food allergen.

When children with food allergies are away from their parents, the knowledge that the parent has trained everyone they know how to recognize symptoms of anaphylaxis and how to correctly administer epinephrine doesn't do any good if the EpiPen has been left behind. EpiPen is a trademark of the company Mylan Inc. for a brand of epinephrine auto-injectors made by its subsidiary Dey Pharma. Making a EpiPen carrier is an activity you can do together with your child, and it carries the added bonus of giving the child an easy way to carry the emergency medication at all times.

    Things You'll Need

    • Small soft pencil case
    • Belt
    • Glue gun
    • Theme-based decorations
      • 1

Determine what medications will go into the carrier. A small case will hold two EpiPen injectors, but if an inhaler must be added, a larger size may be needed.

      • 2

Let the child help you design the EpiPen carrier by choosing the decorations. As the bag will be worn around the child's waist, consider size and construction to avoid discomfort.
Attach the decorations to the pencil bag with hot glue.

      • 3

Fill the decorated bag with the necessary medication and attach to child's belt. Watch to make sure the location of the bag does not interfere with normal activity.

    Tips & Warnings

    • As food allergies in children increase, EpiPen carriers have become very popular. An older child may not be satisfied with a home made craft, but luckily they are readily available.

    • Glue guns heat up rapidly and cool slowly. They should not be used by children.
