Get a referral from a friend or another person you trust. It's especially a good referral if that person has had work done by that dentist and can show you firsthand that dentist's work.

If you're getting work done on your front teeth, consider carefully the porcelains or other work being done to your front teeth. Don't be afraid to express concern or disapproval -- afterall, you'll see those replacement teeth everyday and you want to be happy.

When getting porcelains for your front teeth, don't only look at them carefully when they come in the box, but have the dentist put them in your mouth temporarily so that you can "try them on" before they are bonded permanently to your teeth (and MUCH harder to remove).

Be prepared to go through a few sets of trials before settling on porcelains or caps that suit you. You may get the right fit the first time, but typically that's not the case.
