"Boa" scarfs are very popular right now and a little pricey at most shops. You can make one yourself for about $5 or less depending on the price of the fleece you choose. Other than that it just takes a little time. It usually takes about 1 hour from start to finish.

With all the colors and designs available in polar fleece the possibilities are endless.

They make great gifts!!!!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two pieces of polar fleece
  • sharp sewing scissors
  • thread
  • sewing machine
  • embroidery machine (optional)
  • decorative patch or embelishment (optional)
  1. Step 1
It is easiest to cut and stay straight if you fold the fleece in half when you cut it.

It is easiest to cut and stay straight if you fold the fleece in half when you cut it.

Cut 1 piece of polar fleece 18 - 24 inches wide. I depends how wide you want the scarf to be You could use the same colors or use one pattern and one solid.

  2. Step 2

Using the first piece as a guide, cut the other piece of polar fleece 18 - 24 inches wide. It is usually done with two contrasting colors, but it doesn't have to be. You could use the same colors or use one pattern and one solid. They don't have to be perfectly the same, but they should be close. After they're sewn then the "fringe" is cut any imperfections don't matter. This is a very "forgiving" project.

  3. Step 3

Pin the two pieces of fleece together down the middle. Place the pins approximately 6 inches apart. Be careful not to stretch the fleece. Just let it lie "naturally"

  4. Step 4

Sew the pieces together. Make sure that you have the correct color thread on top and in the bobbin. You want to match your top color thread to your top color of fleece and your bobbin thread to your bottom color. You don't have to do this if you want to see the contrasting stitching, but you have to be sure you can sew VERY straight! You can remove the pins as you go or remove them all when the first seam is done.

  5. Step 5

Stitch a second seam about 1/4 of an inch to the side of the first seam. (about a half a presser foot width)

  6. Step 6

Trim the excess threads from each end.

  7. Step 7

Now is the time to add embelishments. If you have an embroidery machine you could customize with a name, school, mascot or whatever. This is what is shown.

  8. Step 8

If you don't have an embroidery machine, you could add a decorative patch, applique, beads or whatever you want.

  9. Step 9

Lay the scarf out and begin cutting the fringe. Cut each piece about 1 and 1/2 to 2 inches apart. It's really up to you and how fine you want the fringe to be

  10. Step 10

Cut each piece of fringe up about 2 inches. Once again, it's up to you. Just make sure you don't cut into your seams in the middle or your embelishments.

  11. Step 11

Cut the other side just like the first side

  12. Step 12

    Wear and enjoy!!!! Stay warm!!!
