Correct and appropriate postures are crucial for the practice of qigong. Commonly used styles of postures include sitting, lying, standing, and walking. The standing posture is common in practicing qigong. A standard style such as the Tri-Round-Style Standing Stump described below can help promote the energy and benefit the heart, lung, and back.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To start, stand erect with the feet parallel to each other. Keep the feet about shoulder-width apart. Evenly distribute the body weight between the two feet. This is to make a solid and deep connection with the ground. Have the top of the head reaches upward.

  2. Step 2

Relax the whole body. Bend the knees slightly and keep them soft and unlocked. However, do not extend the knees beyond the toes.

  3. Step 3

Have the eyes looking ahead softly, or closed gently to avoid distractions. Naturally close the mouth. Have the tongue tip gently touching the upper palate.

  4. Step 4

Make an embracing gesture through extending the arms in front of the body to create a circle. Have the fingers in each hand slightly separated and bent, as if holding a ball.

Tips & Warnings
  • When standing, use as little force as possible. Do not use too much effort.
