Step 1
Begin riding your bike slowly. You should go about two strides every second.
-
Step 2
Stand up and continue riding your bike at the same speed. You should do so for about 10 seconds in order to set your bike at the proper speed you'll need to be at to ride backwards.
-
Step 3
Place your strong foot, right foot if you're right handed, on the top bar or pipe of your BMX bike, once you are at a steady speed.
-
Step 4
Put your weak foot on the bar right next to your strong foot. While doing this, you should continue to hold onto the handle bars of your bike in order to keep leverage.
-
Step 5
Twist your body quickly so that your entire body is facing the back end of your BMX bike. Once you've done this, you should switch your hands quickly so that your right hand is on the left handle bar and your left hand is on the right handle bar. Sit right in the middle of your handle bars. You may have to be slightly elevated, however, if you are a shorter rider.
-
Step 6
Set your feet down on the pedals. The pedals should have stopped moving by then. From there, simply pedal your feet backwards in order to ride your bike. Remember to glance backwards in order to see where you are going.
