Things You'll Need:

  • A necklace that supports the tips and advice given.
  1. Step 1
Long necklaces are flattering for everyone, tall or short. It's shirt underneath it that makes all the difference.

Long necklaces are flattering for everyone, tall or short. It's shirt underneath it that makes all the difference.

When wearing a long necklace, it should hit anywhere from mid bosom to the belly button. What makes it look right is how low the neckline of your shirt is. For a long necklace to look right it should end no closer than 5 inches from the lowest point of your shirt neckline. You don't want your necklace bottom to hit where your cardigan is buttoned or where there is some detail on your shirt.

  2. Step 2
If this necklace was a few inches shorter or longer, or the cardigan was not buttoned this would work just fine.

If this necklace was a few inches shorter or longer, or the cardigan was not buttoned this would work just fine.

Here is an example of an improper place for a long necklace to hit.

  3. Step 3

Here is an excellent example of where a pendant should hit with this low of a neckline. If your shirt is high you can lay a pendant over the shirt as long as it is at least 1-2 inches below the neckline.

  4. Step 4

This is an example of a pendant that should hang either much lower or much shorter, never this close to the neckline.

  5. Step 5

This is a good example of mixing the same color but in different shades and tones. This is also a good example of where a single strand necklace should hit with this low of a neckline.

  6. Step 6

This is a bad length to wear this necklace. It feels like it is pulling everything down, like everything is sagging. Even with a higher neckline this would still give the impression of sagging.

  7. Step 7

This is a great example of mixing fun colors together and a great length of necklace.

This is another great way to mix colors together and a great length of necklace. Plus this bracelet does not exactly match the necklace but coordinates well. Coordination does not have to be perfect matches.

This is a great example of a two length necklace that hits at just the right places. The shorter single strand is just about where you would need it to hit and so is the pendant strand.
