Making your own wrapping paper, is fun for the whole family !

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrapping Tissue any color or white
  • Food Coloring
  • Newspaper
  • Clothespins
  • Coathangers
  1. Step 1

First, protect your work area with some old newspapers. A few layers is best. This will protect your table top or counter tops.

  2. Step 2

give each person helping, a piece of tissue paper to fold into various shapes. You may need to help younger helpers to fold theirs.

  3. Step 3

Then take the folded tissue to the sink and hold it under a light stream of cool water, til it's completely wet.An adult should do this at the sink. Or you can use a cake pan with water in it at the table.

  4. Step 4

Next, lay the wet paper on the newspaper and blot it gently with bare fingers to remove most of the water.Try to keep the shape it was folded into. Then give the paper to the one who folded it.

  5. Step 5

Set out various colors of food coloring, and while the paper is still wet, drop just drops of food coloring onto the wet paper. On the edges as well as in the middle. Use sparingly. Red and green colors are christmas favorites.Be creative! When each paper is colored to satisfaction, hang some coat hangers from a doorjamb, and put some more newspaper on the floor beneath them. Using the clothespins, carefully clip the still folded colored, wet paper to the hangers til they are dry. When dry, an adult should carefully and slowly unfold the paper to reveal the beautiful colored paper made.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let the paper dry completely. Use other colors when making birthday paper etc.
  • Be sure to wrap the presents first with one or two layers of tissue before adding the colored wrap. This will protect your gift from getting stained if it should get wet! Have Fun!
