Things You'll Need:
- Prelit White Artificial Christmas Tree
- White Satin Ball Ornaments
- Black Yarn
- Black and White Felt
- Black and White Embroidery Floss
- Small Amount Fiber Fill
- Place Card Holders or Similar
- Black 1 1/2" Organdy Ribbon and Black Feathers
- Black Tablecloth or Fabric
-
Step 1
Be creative when looking for ornaments. Sometimes there will be black themed ornaments in with the other holiday decorations, but often the supplies are limited and they can be expensive. Consider craft items that are readily available instead.
-
Step 2
Satin Balls with Crochet CoversWhite satin balls can be embellished with crochet covers, which are simple chain stitches. An alternative to crochet would be to use fabric puffy paint and just put dots and squiggles or stars on the ornaments.
-
Step 3
Felt OrnamentsBlack and white pieces of felt can be cut into very simple shapes (use a glass or soup can to trace a circle). Put two circles together and sew a blanket stitch around using contrasting embroidery floss, leave an opening to put in a little fiber fill to give it dimension, and finish the blanket stitch to close. These can also be decorated with some embroidery, backstitch for initials, or just a star shape in the middle.
-
Step 4
From Place Card Holder to OrnamentLook for any items that may not be intended to be ornaments, but would work. I found these place card holders at Michael's craft store for $1 per pair – they were just right for my small (4') tree.
-
Step 5
For garland, use 1 1/2” wide organdy ribbon, which is sheer and inexpensive and looks very elegant. Black feathers can be tucked into the branches for some extra contrast. Both of these items can be found, often on sale, at any craft store or discount store.
-
Step 6
For a tree skirt either use a solid black tablecloth or any attractive fabric remnant that you prefer.
