How to Write and Put Lettering On a Cake, an Alternative to Using Icing (Using Chocolate!)
Whether it's someone's birthday, graduation party or other special event, a cake with some type of congratulatory message is almost always a part of the celebration. Adding wording to cake using icing takes a little practice to perfect, but is not terribly difficult to learn how to do. If you are already skilled in piping wording onto cakes, but are bored of typical vanilla icing, you can easily write with melted chocolate instead. Use a plastic squeeze bottle with a pointed tip to easily squeeze out the chocolate onto the cake.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2 tsp. canola oil
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Double boiler
- Plastic squeeze bottle
- Wax paper
- Skewer
-
-
1
Combine 1 cup of chocolate chips with 2 tsp. canola oil in a microwave-safe bowl
-
2
Melt the chocolate carefully in the microwave for three minutes, stirring every 30 seconds for even heating. You can melt the chocolate in a double boiler on the stove, stirring until fully melted.
-
3
Pour the warm chocolate into a small plastic squeeze bottle, like the ones used for ketchup and mustard. Screw the lid on tightly.
-
4
Practice the message you would like to write on a piece of wax paper first. Practice only once or twice so that you still have enough chocolate leftover for the actual cake.
-
5
Trace the message lightly into the frosting of the cake using a skewer. That way you only have to follow the lines for a neat message.
-
6
Go over the skewer marks on the cake with the melted chocolate, maintaining a steady, gentle squeeze on the bottle, until you have completed the message.

Tips & Warnings
Write in cursive, which allows you to keep an even, steady stream of chocolate. It also gives the cake look a more upscale appearance.
