How to Hook Up a Flow Switch on a Hot Tub
Owners of hot tubs need to make sure that the tubs' heating elements have functional switches at all times to prevent damage from continuously heating water. Installing a quality flow switch to a hot tub plumbing system can keep you from ruining your favorite part of owning a hot tub--the heat. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Locate the heating unit of your existing hot tub plumbing unit. For hot tubs with pressure switch equipment that needs to be replaced, make sure that the switch is disconnected.
-
2
Cut a length of plumbing "down stream" of the pump and heating system where you will install the new flow switch. Using new PVC piping and PVC primer, build the new flow switch into the existing hot tub plumbing so that they system is once again watertight.

3
Connect the wiring as described in the installation manual. Most new flow switches can utilize the existing pressure switch wiring, but for new installs, be sure to refer to your hot tub wiring diagram to ensure you have the new flow switched wired properly into the electrical system of your hot tub.
-
4
Fill the hot tub with water until it is at the correct operational level and check that the switch is working properly. Now, instead of the heater coming on when you're not in the pool, you will have more control of the heating element of your hot tub by being able to set when the water gets heated by better working flow switches rather than the old style pressure switch that has many problems when used over a long period of time.
