How to Dress Up a White T-Shirt

Punch up your white T-shirt with a chunky belt.

As a staple in your wardrobe, the simple white T-shirt can't be beat. The possibilities are endless. You can dress your white T-shirt up or down and go from a playful look to a more polished, professional look. Whether you're going to class, the beach or out with friends, all you need is a white T-shirt and a few accessories. Remember, your white T-shirt doesn't need to be expensive -- a cheap white T-shirt will go the distance in your wardrobe just as well as a more expensive version.

Instructions

1. Wear a necklace. Whether your necklace is made of pearls or beads, big or small, a necklace adds class and visual interest to your plain white T-shirt. Go for pearls if you're feeling girly or try black or colored beads to make the crisp white of the T-shirt pop.

2. Add a chunky belt. Choose one with a big buckle for stand-out style. You can wear it around your waist or wear a low-rise belt around your hips.

3. Add a jacket. A jean jacket is a classic pairing with a white T-shirt, but try other looks as well. A snappy dark blazer adds a professional touch to a white T-shirt, or try corduroy or suede in neutral tones for a bohemian look.

4. Cut it up. Make fringes along the bottom hem or unravel the sleeves. Cut a new neckline or remove the sleeves for a whole new look.

5. Layer. Wear a long-sleeved colored or patterned shirt underneath, or wear your white T-shirt under a dress or camisole. Add a scarf as another layer to add more color and texture to your outfit.

6. Get creative. Rhinestones, fabric paint and glitter can go a long way. Use glitter glue and rhinestones to write an inspirational word or short phrase on your shirt. Splatter-paint your white T-shirt with fabric paint in different colors for a funky look.

7. Sew on patches or buttons. Add your favorite pins for a different look every day. Wear a variety of patches, pins and buttons or just wear one favorite at a time.
