Everyone (almost) wishes they had a hollywood body. It is possible! The only thing stopping you is...YOU!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Effort
  • Desire
  • Some Time
  • A Lack of Excuses
  1. Step 1

Step 1. You've already made step 1! You've got the initiative to look up how to lose weight! That's the first step, and the easiest. The rest are much more difficult.

  2. Step 2

Next, before you even begin trying to lose weight, you meet the most difficult step in the process. You have to be honest with yourself. The hardest thing for people to do is look in the mirror and say "I am huge. It's disgusting. I want to change." If you're cool with it, then you need a different article. You have to want to not be fat anymore.

  3. Step 3

The next step is to find out why you want to lose weight. If it's simply because the guy/girl at work won't date you, you'll fail. Think of family, being able to play actively with your children, living past forty, not being bed-ridden, being able to walk through a door or sit in a booth at a restaurant are all good things, and you deserve to do them too.

  4. Step 4

Step four. Get up, get out, do something. Activity can be simple and fun. There is no rule in exercising that says working out "has to suck". If you've just got a few extra pounds you want to shed, try a pick-up basketball game once or twice a week. Go to the YMCA and play raquetball or beach volleyball in the summer. If you're very large and losing the weight is more of a necessity, then start slow. You've gained so much weight due to the inactivity rampant in today's society. Start by killing off the TV and walk around the block if you can. Walk to the gas station down the street. Just getting the TV off is a very large step. *Tell the kids to kill the video games for an hour and play monopoly or something. They'll appreciate the time with you, and they'll learn human interaction skills and possibly end up less introverted as teens and adults* Over time, you and your family will become increasingly more active, thus keeping all of you thin and trim as well as increasing your quality of life!

  5. Step 5

Okay, diet. Here's the thing, any diet that tells you to cut something out is not a safe choice. Anything you eat, that you don't excrete, is beneficial to your body in some way. That's why humans vomit, when you ingest something not beneficial. Carbs are necessary, protein is necessary, even fat and saturated fats are necessary. The trouble isn't what, it's how much. In order to boost your metabolism, start by cutting your current two or three large meals a day into six or eight small ones, no more than three hours apart. Use meal replacement bars when necessary, and gradually reduce the amount of food you eat. It would be a safe bet to reduce or stop your intake of beer, as it is incredibly fattening. Stop drinking soda! It's loaded with sodium and can dehydrate you while you attempt to work out. It also has virtually no health benefit. Water, fruit juice, and milk are your new best friends.

  6. Step 6

Finally, REWARD YOURSELF!!! Any diet I have had experience with makes you feel bad, and shames you for congratulating yourself. If after two weeks you've lost five pounds, congratulate yourself with an ice cream treat, or maybe a snack cake. Limit it to one round, but enjoy it and tell yourself "I've earned this." Stick to it, keep reducing the intake and increasing the usage and you'll be much thinner in no time!

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep track of progress! Invest in a tailor's tape and measure around your waist, upper arms, chest, neck, and thickest part of the thigh. The weight may leave other areas of your body before your belly, and it's easy to get discouraged. This way you'll see it when it leaves!
  • Chart your progress! You may forget how much you've lost, or not realize you've lost so much between weigh-ins and measurements.
  • Stay motivated. Do NOT find a way to skip a workout or skimp on the diet. You'll go right back to fat.
  • Join a gym if you have the time and money, and hire a trainer.
  • DO NOT cut out an entire part of nutrition to lose weight.
  • DO NOT expect to be thin by tomorrow. It will take time, and lots of effort.
  • DO NOT get down on yourself, you can do this if you really want to.
  • Save surgery for the very last option. It doesn't matter how safe it seems, disturbing the body's natural processes is dangerous. You will be less likely to stay thin as well, as it took no discipline to get there. Oh yeah, ITS EXPENSIVE!!!
