Winter Strikes

The Holidays are rapidly approaching but along with the holiday season brings the coldest seemingly unbearable temperatures ever. It's time to break out the coat, hat, scarf and gloves putting all of our summer clothing far away. Not only do we want to protect our bodies and keep warm, but we also want to maintain the heat and electric bills in our homes. See below ways to keep warm in this harsh weather.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Coat
  • Scarf
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Bed sheets
  • Plastic for windows
  • Duck Tape
  1. Step 1

Always bundle up before going outdoors. This includes long socks pulled up to the knee. Add another pair of undergarments if necessary but not to over do it with too many because you definitely don't want to sweat out in these killer temperatures.

  2. Step 2

The most important parts of the body to keep covered up is your head and most importantly your neck. If your neck is exposed to the brutal winds next you'll be feeling scratchy and develop a sore throat. This is how it all starts and the effects are almost immediate. (Trust me)

  3. Step 3

As for your home in order to be warm and conserve more energy by saving money you may want to purchase a couple of electric radiators. Keep temperatures low at which this should allow you to finally be able to turn down the heating unit you solely rely on each and every year.

  4. Step 4

Drafty windows are major concerns for cold air to creep in and stay in. If you want to avoid this you must put plastic on your windows and use duck tape to seal. If you do not have plastic no need to worry another way is to use old bed sheets and tuck them in under the base of your windows. Cut according to the size of the window and you can also duck tape that to the window. Even for doors you can use duck tape to go around the entire door securing the entrances from extra drafts.

Tips & Warnings
  • After cooking meals in the oven; leave the oven door propped open to allow the heat to rise throughout the levels of your home.
  • Before leaving to go to work etc., please be sure to turn off all electronic appliances including radiators. You don't want to be without a place to live because of an honest mistake. Turn your heating unit up to a reasonable 70 - 76 while you're away, this should maintain the steady temperature in your home.
  • Be warm and BE BLESSED!
