Closed captioning services are available for free. You can use them if you just want to watch TV or movies while everyone else is sleeping or you need to reduce noise. Closed captioning is also helpful if you are learning a different language or even watching a foreign film. They are great if someone is having trouble hearing the TV at a reasonable volume.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Press the menu button on your TV or satellite remote. Look for an option that says system setup or preferences.

  2. Step 2

You should see an option that says closed captioning. Turn this on.

  3. Step 3

Make sure that the TV show you are watching is available in close captioning. Access your program guide & the closed captioned shows will have a (CC) after the description.

  4. Step 4

You might have another option that says on with mute. This means that the TV will work normally but the closed captioning will appear when the TV is in mute mode. This is especially convenient if you don't want to always be turning the closed captioning on & off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that you are using TV1 on dish network. If you aren't then you will have to set up closed captioning with your TV remote.
  • If closed captioning still isn't working, try muting your TV. Sometimes this is the default setting.
  • Some remotes come with a cc button all you have to do is press it.
