Take a Great Holiday Photo
Take a Great Holiday Photo

Tired of the same posed Holiday photo? Don't be afraid to try something different. Recipients will be happy to see something unique, and you will create a memorable photo that will earn a place of honor in your photo album. Here are some tips to help you:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do your own family photo instead of using a photo studio. You can print your own photos inexpensively at any photo retailer or even local stores.

  2. Step 2

Don’t worry about the fancy clothes. Some of the best holiday photos are not of kids in fancy clothes. For something different let your kids pick their favorite outfit (even if it is a pair of shorts in the middle of November). The photo can show your child’s individual style.

  3. Step 3

If your child is active in a sport, let him or her wear their uniform for the photo. You might even include any honors or awards the child has won in the photo as well.

  4. Step 4

If you have snow outside, bundle everyone up in their winter wear to head outside for a family photo. A family snowball fight makes a fun photo (just be sure the photographer doesn’t get hit by a snowball!). Or build a snowman and have the kids photographed huddled up to their new snow friend.

  5. Step 5

Find a favorite vacation photo from during the year. If you are handy with PhotoShop, you can even add Santa hats onto the kids which can make a fun addition to a beach or summer photo!

  6. Step 6

Still like to have traditional dressy Holiday clothes for your photo? That’s great! You can still do something different by avoiding the stiffly posed photos often taken at department store photo studios. Let the kids dress in their finery then put them in front of the fireplace or Christmas tree. Don’t worry about dressy shoes; keep the casual edge by having the kids barefoot or with matching holiday socks.

  7. Step 7

If you will be going to a studio for photos, let them know you want something different and less traditionally posed. Many will be open to your ideas if they know about them.
