When you have a car you can no longer use, it is important to figure out how to get rid of it in the most beneficial way. You can easily donate your car--or the money you get from disposing of it--to charity in Canada.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Contact Donate A Car Canada at their website. (See the link in Resources.) This organization will allow you to choose which charity gets the money from your car. After you have contacted them, they will tell you where to drop off the car, and ask you which charity you would like the cash to go to.

  2. Step 2

Contact MADD of Canada. Because Mothers Against Drunk Driving is an organization that works to prevent automobile fatalities, they will be able to use the proceeds from the resale of your car (even if it is for scrap) to continue to do their good work. You can locate your nearest MADD chapter on their website (see Resources), and contact them either online or via phone to donate your car.

  3. Step 3

If your car is in good running order, contact the homeless shelters, food pantries, and supply-donation centers in your town. Offer them your car. Most of the time, these organizations will be able to make better use of your car than they would the money that would come from selling it. Be sure to give them the title and all of the relevant information regarding the car. It might not be a bad idea to draw up a bill of sale, even if it is for $1.

  4. Step 4

If none of these options works for you, simply sell your car to another private individual--either to use or for scrap--then donate the money you get to the charity of your choice .

Tips & Warnings
  • Even a car that doesn't run can be used by a charity.
  • Never simply leave a car somewhere in the hopes that it will be donated to the right place.
