How to Apply for a Concealed Handgun Licence in Texas

Ensure you qualify for a license. To qualify you must be at least 21 years of age, a legal resident of Texas for a minimum of six months, and have no felony convictions, have no Class A or B misdemeanors in the last 5 years, not be under indictment of a felony, not be a fugitive from a misdemeanor or felony, not be chemically dependent, be of sound judgment pertaining to the safe storage and handling of weapons, not be delinquent on taxes, child support or an education loan, not be under a protective or restraining order, and be legally able purchase a firearm.

Find an instructor that teaches an approved concealed carry class. The instructor will set up the time and date that she is conducting the class. She will furnish the necessary paperwork involved to get you started and walk you through the process.

Learn the laws, procedures, statistics and formalities.

Show the instructor your proficiency with a firearm on the range. This is where you will fire 100 rounds at different distances. There is no trophy for marksmanship, but it is important to qualify with the minimum score.

Obtain your passport photos and fingerprints. Enclose your fee to the state and mail it in. The state will conduct a thorough background check with the fingerprints. If there is a delay, they should inform you by mail that they are processing your licence. After approval, you will receive you licence via US Mail.
