Make Parmesan Cheese Straws

This quick and easy appetizer is simple to make and tastes delicious. Make up a batch to go along with a spaghetti meal or as munches for your next cocktail party.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Puff Pasty Sheets
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Paprika
  • Flour
  • Pizza Cutter
  • 1 Egg
  • Pastry Brush
  • Parchment Paper
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Oven
  • A Tall Glass
  1. Step 1

Thaw out Pepperidge Farms puff pastry sheets in the refrigerator. You can purchase these in the frozen pastry section of your grocer's freezer.

  2. Step 2

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, this will create a non stick surface that will allow your cheese straws to slide right off on the pan.

  3. Step 3

Lightly flour a table top surface. Take the puff pastry sheets out of the package and unfold the three sections so it makes one large sheet. Using a rolling pin, roll out the puff pastry slightly.

  4. Step 4

In a small bowl, beat one egg slightly. Using a pastry brush, brush the egg wash onto the top surface of the puff pastry. Completely cover the surface.

  5. Step 5

Sprinkle paprika and grated parmesan cheese on the surface of the puff pastry. Lightly press the ingredients into the pastry. You may add oregano for an Italian twist or any other finely shredded cheese that you wish.

  6. Step 6

Cut the puff pastry sheet into long, thin strips using a pizza cutter. To twist the strips, place you hands on opposite ends of the strip and give them a couple of twists.

  7. Step 7

Lay each straw on the parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Check the straws starting at the 10 minute mark to prevent burning.

  8. Step 8

Cool the cheese straws completely. To make a dramatic presentation place them in a tall glass by standing them upright.
