I love fruit salad anytime of the year, but especially so during the holidays. I remember when I first started preparing meals. When I was younger I thought that fruit salad was a can of fruit cocktail mixed with some whipped topping. There is nothing wrong with that, don't get me wrong, but fruit salad is so much tastier when you use fresh fruit, instead of the canned stuff. This recipe makes an excellent side dish for any holiday meal, be sure to make plenty, as it will go fast!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ingredients:
  • 1 banana peeled
  • 1 apple peeled and cored
  • 1 pear peeled and cored
  • 1 orange peeled, sectioned, the outer membrane and the seeds removed
  • ¾ cup of grapes washed
  • 1 peach peeled and the seed removed
  • 1 small jar of maraschino cherries drained
  • ½ cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • ¾ cup of miniature marshmallows
  • ½ cup chopped pecans
  • ½ cup of shredded coconut
  • 1 large container of whipped topping
  1. Step 1

Cut all of your prepared fruit into bite size pieces. Drain the maraschino cherries and cut them in half. Discard the juice. (or refrigerate and save to use in another recipe)

  2. Step 2

Place all of the cut up fresh fruit into a very large salad bowl.

  3. Step 3

Stir in enough of the whipped topping to completely cover all of your ingredients. Transfer the fruit salad into your favorite serving dish.

  4. Step 4

Refrigerate the fruit salad immediately after mixing. Serve chilled.

Tips & Warnings
  • Soak banana slices in lemon juice to keep them from turning brown.
  • Grapes may be cut in half if so desired.
  • Walnuts or almonds may be substituted for pecans.
  • Fruit flavored miniature marshmallows give added flavor to the salad.
  • Keep the fruit salad refrigerated, until ready to serve.
