Walking together builds relationships and fitness.

Partner training means you and a partner whether it's your neighbor, your co-worker, your friend, your spouse or your child, work out together regularly. Partner training provides you with checks and balances, support and encouragement and a reason to keep exercising even when you're tired.

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You'll Need:

  • Desire to succeed
  • Time
  • Effort
  1. Step 1

Talk to your friends and family. Find out what they like to do whether it's walking, running, riding a bicycle or playing sports. Knowing what they like to do and finding activities you both enjoy will increase the amount of effort you both put forth.

  2. Step 2

Set goals together. What do the two of you want to do? Is your goal to lose weight? Is it to spend time together? Is it to relax and have fun? All of these are perfectly valid goals, but discuss what you both want out of the partner training.

  3. Step 3

Be a little competitive. The simple truth is, a little competition is good for the soul. Together, you're more likely to push a little further or work a little harder. You are also far less likely to blow off a workout if your partner is waiting for you. So be a little competitive and encourage each other.

  4. Step 4

Don't be afraid of change. The number one enemy of any workout program is boredom. If you walk in the same places every day, consider choosing a new location. If the weather is changing and you'd rather swim for a few weeks, exchange one workout for another. Change keeps your muscles and your mind engaged.

Tips & Warnings
  • You are more likely to succeed in an exercise program with support.
  • Motivation is important to good fitness.
  • Social activities encourage people to do more.
