Things You'll Need:
- Confidence
- a strong voice
- time
-
Step 1
Check the arts section of your local newspaper for auditions. Read carefully and only go to auditions if you fit the descriptions of the actresses or actors they need. There are sometimes special teen only workshops and productions. These offer more parts for a teen actress.
-
Step 2
Drop by the theatre office for more information about the show. Sometimes you can pick up songs or parts of monologues so you can become familiar with them ahead of time.
-
Step 3
If asked to prepare a monologue chose something with a character similar to the part in the play you feel you are best suited for. Memorize the piece and practice in front of a mirror and then in front of friends and family
until it is perfect. Be sure it is within any time restrictions you are given. -
Step 4
If asked to prepare a song chose something that suits your age. Be sure the part you select is within the time limits you are given. Get the sheet music and practice until you are perfect.
-
Step 5
Bring a resume of your theatre experience and a picture of yourself to all auditions. If you are singing bring your sheet music with the passage you are planning to sing marked. If you will dance wear appropriate shoes and clothes you can move in.
-
Step 6
In the audition the director will often ask you to do something in a different way. Try your best to do this. He or she wants to know how well you "take direction".
-
Step 7
If you don't get the part try again. Become involved by volunteering at the theatre. Painting sets, working backstage and making costumes will get you involved and is fun. If you become part of the team they will often want to cast you. Try auditioning with small groups. It is easier to get cast at smaller theaters.
