Going to the beach can amount to a miniature vacation and an opportunity to relax. Between the waves, the sand and the fresh air, it can be a wonderful experience. However, people who have little to no etiquette can end up tainting the visit. During your next beach trip, consider adhering to some simple etiquette tips to make the outing pleasant for both you and the other beach visitors.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stay away from someone else's beach towel. Sand that ends up on a beach towel is usually dragged there on the feet of people who have walked onto it. Not only will the owner now have sand all over her towel, but it's rude to step on her property in the first place. When walking on the beach, be careful to step around the towels instead of on them.

  2. Step 2

Throw out your trash when you're finished. A beach is supposed to be a place of beauty, not a dumping ground. Not only could the garbage get washed into the ocean, but someone could get hurt if they step on it. In addition, any trash that is left on the beach can be ingested by animals and hurt or kill them. As soon as you are done with your garbage, find the nearest trash can and toss it out.

  3. Step 3

Avoid talking about others on the beach. Some people feel moved to comment on what others on the beach look like or what they're wearing. Should the person who is being judged see or hear that he is being talked about, he could end up feeling quite uncomfortable, insulted or embarrassed. Refrain from making any comments at all, to avoid any hurt feelings or problems.

  4. Step 4

Keep food away from seagulls. If you've ever been to a beach, you know there is always the possibility of a seagull relieving himself on you or stealing your food. These birds are usually attracted to certain areas where food is available. Help keep them away from your area by keeping your food low enough that the birds can't get it, and by not feeding them in the first place.

  5. Step 5

Avoid getting sand on those around you. Whether you are walking past someone or are playing catch, be wary of what you are doing to avoid getting sand on other people. Not only is this annoying, but you could end up getting sand in their eyes or mouth as well.
