The first step to getting your own domain name, for free, is by doing a search online. Most of the time web hosting providers will throw in a domain name if you buy web hosting(which is TOP companies such as godaddy, bluehost, hostgator, etc). Then there are companies that provide just a domain name, and some that provide you with free hosting and a free sub-domain. And lastly, there are providers that just provide the hosting.
