Learn how to skin a deer for mounting.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small sharp knife
  • Saw (to cut the legs)
  • Rope
  • Leg spreader
  1. Step 1

First thing you need to do is cut off the legs cut the back legs about four inches below the knees. Cut the front legs directly above the knees

  2. Step 2

Now you need to remove the skin from the back legs to do this you will need to turn the deer onto its back and stand behind it make a cut on the inside of the leg to the opening where you gutted the deer from.

  3. Step 3

After making the cut you need to grab the skin with your hand with a twisting motion roll the skin around your fist as you pull it off.

  4. Step 4

Now you need to take the leg spreader and place each end of the spreader between the tendon and back leg bone and use the rope to lift the deer until its nose is about an inch off the ground.

  5. Step 5

Next you will have to grab the tail and pull down on it while taking your knife and cutting it off.

  6. Step 6

Now take the tail and pull it straight down toward the floor.

  7. Step 7

You should have been able to pull the skin down to about the front shoulders now you have to take you knife and cut the fat between the meat and skin (DO NOT CUT THE SKIN) cutting the skin will make it harder for the taxidermist to mount the head

  8. Step 8

Keep using your knife and pulling on the skin until you get it down to the middle of the neck then with someone holding the head cut it off with you saw most places will take the whole head to be mounted.
