Step 1
Make a list of skills and experience you have that will help you get a work at home job as a virtual assistant. Skills may include data entry, paralegal, making travel arrangements, qualifying leads, public relations, internet marketing experience etc.
-
Step 2
Think about the type of client that may benefit most from your areas of expertise. For example, if you have a real estate license you could work as a virtual assistant for a real estate company.
-
Step 3
Develop a website for your virtual assistant business. Read my eHow "How to Get a Free Website and Free Website Design". Highlight your skills and experience on the website to get a work at home job as a virtual assistant.
-
Step 4
Decide on pricing. Keep in mind that most clients do not pay insurance, sick time, benefits, vacation time etc. You are covering the cost of electricity, equipment, phone charges, office supplies and more. A survey of virtual assistants show over half charge between $20-$40 some less and some more. Carefully evaluate what your time is worth.

Actively seek clients. You can advertise on Craigslist, call local businesses or find clients at sites like elance.com and getafreelancer.com. These are great ways to get a work at home job as a virtual assistant.
