Instructions

If you have a roll-away bed--one that folds upward in the middle and rests on a frame with four wheels in the center--move it, while still folded, to the location where you want it to sit. Stand beside the bed, facing the crease, and grab the left side of the frame with your left hand and the right side with your right. (Be sure to grab the sides facing you, and not the top of the frame.) Push firmly outward until the bed unfolds completely. You will feel a catch as the frame locks into position. The catch is very important, since you don't want the bed to fold up on your sleeping guest.

    • 2

If you have a cot, put the bed where you want it and unfold the legs. First, turn the bed upside-down and situate yourself near the center. Then pull the legs up and outward--the right leg to the right and the left leg to the left. Turn the bed over and you are good to go.

    • 3

If you have an inflatable bed, find a flat, clear area where you can unfold it completely. Once you have it unfolded, attach the air pump to the nozzle on the bed and allow it to inflate. This will take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes depending on the brand and model of the bed. If it takes longer than 30 minutes, there is probably a puncture or tear. Remove the air pump and push down on the bed to determine where the air is escaping from. Then patch it up and try again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Know the weight limit of your folding guest bed. Don't exceed it, or the bed could collapse. Remove all sheets, blankets and pillows before you put your bed back in storage. Otherwise, it won't fold up tightly.

  • Be careful when unfolding a bed with a metal frame. You don't want to pinch your fingers. Never try to inflate a bed by using your mouth. It will take forever and give you an extreme headache.
