Little one can't breathe well? Here are some tips.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sit with your baby in the bathroom with the door closed and run the shower at a very hot temperature. Sit in the steam for 5 to 10 minutes, and that should help loosen up the blockage.

  2. Step 2

Place a humidifier in baby's room or in the room baby is in. Be sure the humidifier gives a cool mist. Most that are made for children are cool mist. This will also help loosen blockage making it easier to breathe.

  3. Step 3

Give the baby some saline nose drops specifically for baby. These can be found near the baby medicine at any mass retailer (near the pharmacy). Use as directed to help loosen the nasal blockage.

  4. Step 4

After each of the above suggested methods, you should start to see some loose nasal mucus near the opening of the nostrils. Use a tissue to gather what you can outside of the nose, and a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator to clear what you can from inside the nose (don't stick it in more than about half a centimeter, and never force it in).

Tips & Warnings
  • If the baby is overly fussy, running a fever or is inconsolable, call the pediatrician for further advice.
