When repairing tears or scratches in leather it can be tricky. If you use kits you will get great results but you need to carefully follow directions or you'll end up with a goopy mess!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The best way to fix a tear in leather is to call a professional. They will come to your home when you have furniture too large to transport and they usually don't charge very much. You can look them up in the phone book, try a seamstress or leather worker if you have one in your area.

  2. Step 2

This can be done yourself if you have the proper equipment. One online store is vinylpro.com, they have a large assortment of qualities and colors to choose from, you are sure to find a color match. Take the time to find a good color because you dont want it to stick out like a sore thumb! Another good thing to do is try to match the leather grain! Some more sites are leatherworldtech.com, leatherrepairkits.com, and leathermagic.com. The best way to go is to order a kit. They come with great instructions and contain everything you need and all the right colors!

  3. Step 3

If you just have scratches, even deep ones, there are other things you can do. You can use shoe polish (same color as couch), murphy's oil soap, or olive oil. All of these things work pretty well...sometimes the scratch even vanishes! Go try it now!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to match the exact color before you put anything on your couch!
  • Make sure if you are patching leather to use the same leather grain.
  • Don't patch a grainy leather with shiny vinyl or smooth leather, it will look weird.
  • Don't use the wrong color if you use polish or a kit.
