Things You'll Need:
- glass ornament (you can find them at your local craft store like Michael's) (you can also buy the colored ornaments from either the dollar store or Walmart and soak them in clorox which will take off
- Glass paint
- Cup of water
- Disposable plate to put paint in.
- paint brushes
- paper towels
-
Step 1
Clean your ornament with vinegar and let dry completely. The vinegar will get off any foreign object that should not be there. Once the ornament is dry wash it in warm soapy water. You are now ready to begin painting.
-
Step 2
One way to quickly decorate your ornament is to fill them with paint. Remove the top of the ornament. Take the glass paint and pour it into the ornament. Move the ornament so all of the inside is coated. Once the inside is completely covered take the ornament and place it somewhere upside down so the paint can drip out of it. It is best to leave it overnight completely upside down to be sure all of the excess paint drips out. If this is all of the decorating you want on the ornmanet then you are finished with the painting portion. If not, you may paint whatever you would like on the ornament. You may do this before you let the ornament dry overnight just be sure the ornament will not fall over and smear what you have added to the outside.
-
Step 3
Now that you have finished painting the ornament needs to be baked so the paint becomes permanent. If you waited for the ornament to dry overnight before you painted the outside you will need to let it sit another 24 hours before you bake it. Glass paint must dry for 24 hours before it is baked to insure durability. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Put the ornament on a cookie sheet in the oven for 30 minutes. This will make the paint permanent. Replace the top of the ornament. You can also add a ribbon to the top of the ornament for a little something extra.
