'Tis the season to celebrate the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, Hanukkah and wintertime celebrations of all cultures ! Festive craft and home decor ideas abound at this time of year. Nothing is more fun than getting a few friends together to make holiday ornaments for the tree. Here's how to make a fun, easy, and very inexpensive, Christmas wreath with pretzels.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pretzel knots or twists
  • hot glue and glue gun
  • or, Elmer's (or other craft type) glue
  • spray adhesive
  • spray, or brush on, paint
  • glitter
  • ribbon
  1. Step 1
    Snap off the nubs

    Snap off the nubs

For each Christmas wreath ornament; you will need 6 pretzels. Cut, or snap off with your fingers, the little "nubs" on both sides of each pretzel. Doing this will allow the glue to adhere better.

  2. Step 2
    Hot glue pieces together

Hot glue, (or use craft glue if you like, but prepare to wait for it to take longer to dry), each pretzel knot to each other on both sides. Form as you go to make a circular shape. Allow hot glue to set, or liquid glue to dry completely. After it's dry, check each glue site and make sure it is firmly affixed. If not, apply more glue.

  3. Step 3
    Spray paint wreath

Using spray paint color of choice, (or acrylic brush on paint), spray or brush entire pretzel wreath on one side. Allow to dry, then turn and paint the other side. Spray paint is easier and dries much faster than brush on, but you may find a greater range of colors for your use with an acrylic brush on type of paint. Allow wreath to dry completely.

  4. Step 4
    Add glitter

    Add glitter

Spray adhesive can be found in any crafts department and easily, and quickly, allows you to adhere glitter to your pretzel wreath project. Spray a light coat of adhesive and sprinkle generously with glitter. Allow to dry until the spray adhesive is no longer tacky to touch.

  5. Step 5

Cut a length of ribbon and weave it carefully through the pretzel knots. Tie it in a bow at the top and add a ribbon to hang it from your Christmas tree.

Tips & Warnings
  • This craft project can be adapted for use with children. Use regular glue instead of hot glue or an adult can do the gluing.
  • Use regular craft paint instead of spray paint, or use in properly vented area with adult supervision.
